Wind Sensors for Monitoring Wind Speed for Fountains, Pools, and Water Features
A water feature, fountain, or pool is a focal point that adds beauty and intrigue to any landscape, but windy conditions can cause water to splash outside of the water feature’s perimeter leaving paths, sidewalks, and possibly even people near it unintentionally wet. To mitigate this from happening, monitor the wind speed and shut off the water feature's pumps when it is too windy.
The best way to monitor wind speed is with a wind sensor, otherwise known as an anemometer. Using a wind sensor in tandem with a base display that includes control relays allows for the control of water feature flow rates depending on the wind conditions. This setup of wind sensor and controller will eliminate splash and spray due to wind conditions, increase sustainability by using less water, as well as ensure that a water feature is as functional and aesthetically pleasing as possible.

The base display has a touchscreen display that displays the wind speed during normal operation. It has system setting options to configure the integral control relays. The relay status is shown on the main screen for the activated outputs.
The three control relays that can be individually labeled and configured for wind speed trigger on and off speeds. This coupled with the configurable delay timer control, allows for proper shutoff of fountain pumps. The delay timer delays the restart to ensure that a wind event has ended prior to a return to normal fountain function. Each relay is capable of a 1 amp, 120VAC load or 2 amps at low voltage. If higher load capacity is required, Etesian separately offers a general purpose relay and socket option for 120VAC and 24V applications. Higher voltage and 3-phase applications can use the wind trigger relay contacts as control input signals to separate system hardware like contactors, variable frequency drives and motor starters.
The base display also includes an analog output of 0-10V corresponding linearly to 0-200 kph, (0-55 m/s, 0-125 MPH).
The M12 connection on the base display makes for easy integration with existing control systems. A 2 meter long connection cord set is included to connect the relay (NO, NC, Common) and analog outputs to terminals or junction wires.
